Fine Tuning

Because of the variability of pellets, i.e., length, thickness, density, moisture content and quality of raw material etc, you might have to, from time to time, fine tune your heater to compensate for pellet quality. Here are some suggestions for fine tuning:

There are three fine tuning adjustment components.

The trim button located on the control plate. The trim button will allow you to change the feed rate on each setting i.e. Hi, Med. and Low. By turning the trim button clockwise you can increase the feed rate and by turning the trim counter clockwise you can decrease the feed rate. For example, if the pellets you are using are made of hardwood and are more than 1" long they might not feed fast enough to sustain the fire on the low setting. By turning the trim clockwise you can increase the feed rate and prevent the fire from going out.

The air intake adjustment lever, located on the bottom-front of the stove, will allow you to regulate the amount of combustion air being fed to the pellet fire pot. If, for example, you have a high vertical pipe run (over 10') then, as the pipe warms up, the draw can be excessive and you will lose heat out of the pipe. To make the stove run more efficiently you will need to close the butterfly damper about 60-70% thus allowing the heat exchanger to capture more heat and direct it into the room. If, on the other hand, you feel the pellets are not getting enough combustion air and the damper is closed then, by opening the damper, combustion air can be increased. You can also increase combustion air by utilizing the trim pot adjustment procedure outlined below.

The fan speed can be adjusted by utilizing the fan trim pots located on the circuit board ( see overview/ internal parts). Note the two trim pots marked on the drawing (lower left hand corner). By using a small slot screwdriver you can adjust fan speed to compensate for poor quality pellets or air flow restriction. By turning the trim pots clockwise you can speed up the fan on both Hi and Low settings. Medium will fall in the middle and self adjust. You will have to experiment with the settings to determine the proper burn. A lively, brisk flame that is bright yellow, not orange, will indicate an efficient burn.
